Don’t you just love saying omega? It might be one of my favorite words. Along with bodacious. Possibly changing the title of this recipe to BODACIOUS Omega-3 Grain Free Tahini Bread. Or maybe just bodacious omega bread? Are you still reading?
Back to reality. This bread has been made in my tiny studio apartment kitchen about 5 times by now. If you’re a TNK tribee subscriber then you recieved an exclusive email of the recipe last week!
I’m super excited to finally share it with the masses becasue it has added so much delicious, BODACIOUS comfort to my life.
In fact, toast in general is a soulful experience for me. Okay, dramatic, but hear me out. There are not many things that live up to the smell of a fresh loaf of bread straight from the oven. Or the crisp aroma that takes over when you got your toaster in full swing. Especially when it’s 4 degrees outside and there’s snowfall in the background of your floor to ceiling windows.
Oh the perks of Boston architecture charm.
As you can see I’m sort of a romantic when it comes to…most things. A dreamer. A passionate soul of some sorts. It’s inevitable that I will make you fall in love with the idea of making your own homemade loaf of bread. The best part is you get to reap in a ton of nutritious benefits while you’re at it.
Not to mention this homemade bread requires no kneading, extensive list of ingredients or much effort at all to make.
BECAUSE THAT’S HOW I DO MY LOVES.
This little space on the internet allows me to combine the science filled portion of my brain with the creative wild side that make me…ME.
Real talk thugh, many gluten free or grain free breads I’ve tried in the past are super dry and lacking. No thanks. The only descent “paleo” bread I ever tried was at Erewhon Market back in LA. That loaf was made for a pure goddess. A rich goddess given the price. It’s actually pretty famous and I’m here to tell you this tahini grain free bread is BETTER.
Yup. No modesty here and no shame about it. Trust your girl.
I provided some of the nutritious benefits in this versatile bread (like why the heck is omega in the title?), storage recommendations and topping ideas below!
Omega-3 Grain Free Tahini Bread Nutritious Details
Omega-3 Benefits: So why omega-3’s? The base of this recipe is chalkful of real, wholesome ingredients (almond flour, cashew butter, tahini…). Mainly lots of healthy fats that are essential for your body to absorb micronutrients and minerals. Aside from that, they help sustain energy levels and balance out meals since they take longer to digest. Omega-3’s (compared to omega-6’s) have MANY benefits but in sum, reduce inflammation, regulate hormones, support mental health and provide brain energy. Studies have also shown omega-3 fatty acids help with joint health as well. They’re basically the Beyonce of all fats. Bodacious Beyonce Omega Bread anyone?
Tahini & Cashew Butter: The majority of healthy fats in this recipe come from the cashew butter and ground sesame tahini (as well as almond flour). I do not recommend subbing these ingredients for anything else as it will alter the flavor profile of the bread. I tested this recipe with all tahini and no cashew and found it to be a bit too earthy and over powering. The combination of cashew + tahini really balances it all out. I love SOOM brand for quality tahini and usually get my cashew butter from Trader Joe’s.
Almond Flour: Make sure you use FINELY GROUND almond flour and not almond meal. This is key! My favorite is Bobs Red Mill. Make sure to store almond flour in the fridge to prevent from going rancid.
Allergy Friendly: This recipe is naturally free of gluten, dairy or grains. ALL the trendy things. This just happens to be an added component based on the wholesome/anti-inflammatory ingredients in the recipe. It’s great if you are on the hunt for a gluten free bread that actually tastes delicious or have a sensitivity to processed grains/dairy, etc.
Topping Ideas: What I love about this bread is how versatile it is! You can go savory OR sweet. My favorite topping combos lately have been mashed avocado + sea salt/lemon + eggs, tahini + jam + granola, cream cheese + wild canned salmon + hot sauce, peanut butter + dairy free yogurt + banana…the list is never ending!
Serves: 8 large slices
- ½ cup finely ground almond flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Sea salt to taste
- ½ cup sesame tahini
- ½ cup cashew butter*
- 2 eggs + 2 egg whites
- 1 Tbsp. raw honey
- 2 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
- Optional Additions: pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, chopped almonds, oats
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees farenheit and line a 9x5 loaf pan with parchment paper. Make sure there is enough parchment paper to hang over the edges!
- Blend together the tahini, cashew butter, honey, eggs and egg whites with a hand blender. Slowly add in the apple cider vinegar and continue to blend for a few seconds.
- Mix in the dry ingredients until fully mixed. Spread into the loaf pan and bake for about 25-30 minutes. Careful not to overbake!
- Allow bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes then let cool on a cooling rack for atleast 20 minutes before slicing.
After slicing bread, place in a zip lock baggie, with small pieces of parchment paper separating each slice. Store in the freezer until ready to eat! Allow bread to defrost in the fridge then toast or reheat in the microwave for about 20 seconds then toast!
